Leeds United news as Whites told they are bucking the trend with manager decision

Here are your latest Leeds United headlines for Sunday, April 16.

Cascarino's verdict

Tony Cascarino believes Javi Gracia is the only interim manager to enjoy success so far in the Premier League this season. Six top-flight clubs have made temporary appointments in the current campaign, with Dean Smith becoming the latest after replacing Brendan Rodgers at Leicester City.

Cascarino has questioned the 'strange' trend of interim appointments, but believes Leeds made the right call to install Gracia following the dismissal of Jesse Marsch in February. He told talkSPORT: "Has it worked for Leeds having an interim manager? Yeah."

The former striker added: "So far for the majority of them, it has not worked. It does seem strange planning for a club and a business that are so successful in revenue and being a Premier League club, that they don't have anyone in place. That was always the idea before, have someone ready.

"If you're going to sack someone, make sure you've got someone to step into his shoes. Quite clearly, this isn't the case for six teams in the Premier League."

Gracia on mentality

Javi Gracia says Leeds United's key leaders set an example through their actions on and off the pitch amid questions that his side lack a vocal presence on the pitch.

Leeds capitulated during the second half against Crystal Palace, which saw them concede four goals in a humiliating 5-1 defeat in front of their own supporters at Elland Road.

Captain Luke Ayling came under heavy criticism for his performance, while the likes of Robin Koch, Jack Harrison, and Patrick Bamford failed to stand up and be counted for.

The Whites dropped to within two points of the drop zone following their horror show against the Eagles, but Gracia believes the attitude and mentality in the camp remains strong.

Whites miss Adams

Leeds United were dealt a major blow when Tyler Adams was ruled out of the Whites' preparations for Wolves last month and the American is set for an extended spell on the sidelines. Nonetheless, Javi Gracia's side picked up a vital three points in that clash and had taken six points from a possible 9 available following the defeat at Arsenal, with Adams' absence not particularly hard felt.

It's a respectable return, but last weekend's thrashing against Crystal Palace saw Leeds come crashing back down to earth. The Whites had dominated the first-half but were level at the break with Roy Hodgson's side scoring on the bring of half-time.

Leeds' soft underbelly was exposed in a second-half collapse. It's always difficult to digest a result and scoreline like last weekend, but it's fair to suggest Adams would have made that scoreline less emphatic.
