A look at the latest Leeds United headlines this morning, Monday, 22 August.
Whites tipped to sign striker before summer window closes
Leeds United have been tipped to sign another striker before the transfer window slams shut in less than a fortnights time. Jesse Marsch revealed he didn't want to risk Patrick Bamford against Chelsea, with the forward continuing his return from injury.
Last season Joe Gelhardt stepped up into the role, however Rodrigo is currently in the form of his Whites' career.
Speaking to Football Insider, Hutton said: “They’ll probably be on the hunt to bring in another striker. I think [Joe] Gelhardt had to step in last season, Leeds had a lot of issues when Bamford was out injured. I still think they have to bring somebody in.
“It is a shame for Bamford, he’s not really been able to keep himself fit the last couple of seasons. If that’s him with another injury, I don’t think they can go through this whole season without bringing in reinforcements, so they’ll definitely be looking to bring in another striker.“
Marsch steps out of Bielsa's shadow with a Leeds United display Elland Road's waited 898 days for
Marsch’s ‘Stoke’ moment
It may have come in Jesse Marach’s 15th competitive fixture as Leeds United head coach rather than his first, but the manner of Sunday’s win bore the hallmarks of Marcelo Bielsa’s Stoke City opener in 2018. They were similarly sun-kissed August afternoons at Elland Road and each match left many walking away with their mouths gaping.
Much in the way Bielsa’s 3-1 education of Gary Rowett left you in awe at what you were seeing, Marsch’s dismantling of Chelsea was finally the first time it felt like it really clicked under him. At long last, after all of the doubting and worrying about the system, the players and the head coach, we got to see the American’s vision on the field.
Not only did the penny drop on how his tactics worked, but the effectiveness of his philosophy at full tilt will encourage fans about where this season could be heading. This wasn’t just a half-decent, narrow victory over some lower mid-table fodder, this was a three-goal procession which trampled all over a team that won the Champions League 15 months ago.
Tyler Adams announces himself at Leeds United as Jesse Marsch's heavy metal technician
It’s fair to say Jesse Marsch knew what he was going to get from Tyler Adams when he arrived at Thorp Arch, fresh from his switch from RB Leipzig. The American head coach worked with Adams at New York Red Bulls, while the midfielder was just a teenager, before being reunited with him in Germany during his time in the Bundesliga.
The pair have developed a special bond over Adams’ short playing career so far and, as a result, Marsch knows Adams’ game inside and out. He knows how to motivate him, how he can play to his strengths and how he wants him to play in his system.
That system can be described as aggressive, entertaining, vigorous, intense, controlled, courageous, forceful and gritty and that same list of words can be used to sum up the 23-year-old’s style of play, too. Marsch encourages heavy metal football from his side and Adams is his chief head banger in the middle of the park.
'Brilliant' Rodrigo told he can fill the Leeds United void left by Raphinha
Micah Richards has praised Leeds United forward Rodrigo after the Spaniard continued his sensational start to the season with a goal in the 3-0 win over Chelsea.
Rodrigo bagged his fourth goal in three games, nodding in the second goal of the game against Chelsea after meeting Jack Harrison's free-kick. The 31-year-old is already just two goals away from equalling last season's tally.
The former Valencia man led the line for Leeds in the absence of Patrick Bamford, but the loss of the number nine wasn't felt, with Rodrigo continuing his goalscoring streak.
"Four in three now," said former Manchester City defender Richards on Sky Sports' Super Sunday coverage. "He’s on fire. He feels like a man playing with confidence."
