Leeds United news as Whites target is 'absolutely' leaving MLS & next eight opponents ranked

Here are your Leeds United evening headlines for Sunday, September 25.

Leeds target 'absolutely' leaving MLS

Major League Soccer journalist Tom Bogert has claimed that Leeds target Kai Wagner will ‘absolutely’ be sold to Europe in the winter. However, Bogert has also warned that Leeds are far from the ‘only’ club interested in the left-back.

The Philadelphia Union left-back has registered eight assists in 32 MLS games this term and has played every minute in a defence that has conceded just 22 times.

Wagner has played an instrumental role in propelling Philadelphia Union to the summit of the Eastern Conference. The Us need just two more points to guarantee their passage to the MLS play-offs as Eastern Conference champions.

Next eight opponents ranked

Leeds United face eight league games in just under six weeks, starting with the visit of Aston Villa to Elland Road on October 2.

The Whites will be in action for the first time in just under a month and should be confident of ending a three-match winless run in the league against a Villa side, who are yet to register a single point away from home this term.

They have amassed five more points (eight) than at this stage last season and will be buoyed by their impressive form at Elland Road. Only Tottenham (12), Manchester City and Arsenal (nine each) have earned more home points than Leeds (seven) this season.

Rowett unaware of financial penalties in Cresswell loan

Millwall manager Gary Rowett has claimed he is unaware of any financial penalties imposed by Leeds United if Charlie Cresswell does not play. Cresswell joined the Championship side on a season-long-loan in the summer and has enjoyed a strong start to life at the Den.

The England U21 international has featured in all but two of Millwall’s 10 league matches in the first two months of the campaign, starting on seven occasions. Cresswell has scored three goals already for Rowett’s side but after a couple of errors was dropped to the bench for games against Norwich City and Reading.

According to the Athletic, Millwall did not pay a loan fee for Cresswell in the summer but will be imposed financial penalty clauses if he does not play the number of minutes Leeds want. Rowett, though, has insisted he is does not know of any potential clauses, and says he would not pick the team based on this anyway.
