Leeds United news as Whites' takeover deadline claim made and Rodrigo takes aim at VAR

A look at the latest Leeds United headlines this morning on Sunday, 13 November.

Leeds United takeover deadline claim made

Phil Hay believes the reported Leeds United deadline would not rule out a deal between Andrea Radrizzani and the 49ers Enterprises. Last week, a report claimed that a full takeover was close to being complete.

Speaking on the Phil Hay Show, he said: “Our understanding was that the option [to buy the club] was there until 2024, that said I haven’t seen the paperwork for it so I couldn’t say categorically whether that’s the case.

“I think though, it’s one of those where if the 49ers were intent on buying and Radrizzani was intent on selling it seems unlikely to me that if it went beyond January 2024 that there wouldn’t be scope to still do the deal and sell the club.”

Rodrigo highlights problem Leeds United must rectify as he delivers verdict on VAR decision

Rodrigo Moreno has vented his disappointment after Leeds United came away with nothing against Tottenham Hotspur despite scoring three goals away to a 'top opponent'. The Whites took the lead on three separate occasions in the capital but were unable to capitalise as they were defeated 4-3.

Crysencio Summerville had given Leeds the lead early on in proceedings, with Rodrigo then scoring twice in either half to put Leeds 2-1 and 3-2 ahead. Leeds suffered a late defensive collapse, though, as Rodrigo Bentancur netted two goals in quick succession in the final 10 minutes.

Speaking on LUTV after the game, Rodrigo admitted this sort of defeat is 'not the first time this happened' and Leeds must use the break to rectify this problem.

Leeds United have traded in a looming World Cup rebuild for a January transfer evolution

Beren Cross was at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to watch Leeds United's latest seven-goal thriller and here are his talking points...

The defensive collapse

We are not only talking about Leeds United’s collapse at Tottenham Hotspur either. The Whites have shipped 13 goals in their last five league games.

By stark contrast, they conceded five goals in their first five games of the season. In the five games before Marcelo Bielsa was sacked, Leeds conceded 20 goals, so you have some context for where Leeds are at right now.

Jesse Marsch has prided himself on shoring up the United defence, first down last term’s run-in and then through the opening weeks of this campaign. The Brentford result of September was previously being treated as an anomaly, but defensive leaks like that have recently become the norm.

Leeds United's familiar feeling as Jesse Marsch's World Cup break focus becomes clear

As they trudged off the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium field, Leeds United’s players were no doubt filled with what is becoming a familiar feeling. Having led three times against Antonio Conte’s Spurs, they lost 4-3 and it’s fair to say it was a defeat of their own doing.

Everything was going so well as Leeds entered the final 10 minutes of the game, they had a 3-2 lead to show for their impressive efforts and they certainly looked capable of recording yet another win against a Champions League side. However, two Rodrigo Bentancur goals in quick succession spelt defeat for the Whites as they unravelled in north London and went on to finish the game with 10 men following Tyler Adams’ sending off.

As such, as he has done on a number of occasions this season, Jesse Marsch was left lamenting individual errors as he faced the press after the game. Rather than being able to see his players off into the World Cup break on a high, the head coach was downbeat, frustrated and angry after watching his side throw away three points.
