Leeds United news as Whites left 'waiting' for official Barcelona Raphinha bid

A look at the latest Leeds United morning headlines on Tuesday, 12 July.

Leeds United waiting for Raphinha bid

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano claims Leeds United are still waiting for Barcelona to submit their bid for Raphinha after a verbal proposal on Sunday night. The two clubs agreed a deal that could total €72million which would rival Premier League side Chelsea.

The Whites winger has not hidden his desire to move to the Nou Camp, with hopes of following in the footsteps of Brazil legend Ronaldinho. Raphinha and his agent Deco have been holding out for an improved offer from Barcelona and a verbal fee was agreed over the phone at the weekend, just days after Barca sold TV rights in order to free up some finances.

Romano said: "Raphinha situation. Leeds are still waiting for Barcelona to submit the official proposal after the verbal bid improved on Sunday night: €72m total package. It’s the final but key step. Raphinha, optimistic - he has been pushing during the weekend."

Marsch lifts lid on U21 boss interviews and his backroom reshuffle

Interviews for Leeds United’s vacant under-21 manager position continue as Jesse Marsch looks for someone capable of carrying his philosophy to the top of the academy. Andrew Taylor has returned to his loans manager position after guiding what was the under-23s through Mark Jackson’s redeployment.

Jackson has signed a new contract to remain a part of Marsch’s first-team backroom staff, but the role he left remains unfilled. Director of football Victor Orta and academy manager Adam Underwood have been chairing the interviews, but Marsch is at the heart of the decision-making process.

“Victor and Adam Underwood have been having quite a few interviews,” he said. “I’m aware with everything and I’m in touch with what’s going on there."

Rumour round-up as scouts are sent to watch highly-coveted Chile star

According to Football Insider , Leeds scouts were sent to watch Ben Brereton-Diaz in action on Saturday. The Chile international featured for Blackburn Rovers in their pre-season friendly with Accrington Stanley, with the report claiming Leeds are one of a number of Premier League and La Liga sides pursuing the 23-year-old.

Leeds are in the market for a forward to provide cover and competition and believe the Rovers star fits the bill. Brereton Diaz enjoyed the best season of his career last term, scoring 22 goals in 37 Championship games, he is out of contract with Rovers in the summer of 2023 so they could be forced to cash in this summer to stop him leaving on a free transfer.
