Leeds United news as Whites 'interested in' Chelsea winger and back-up goalkeeper

Here are the latest Leeds United evening headlines on Sunday, 30 January 2022.

Interest in Chelsea winger and backup goalkeeper revealed

Leeds United have enquired about Chelsea winger Kenedy and are also in the market for another goalkeeper, according to the Daily Telegraph's Mike McGrath.

It has been widely reported that the Whites want to recruit a winger if Crysencio Summerville departs and Liverpool's Takumi Minamino has been linked.

However, Leeds are also reportedly targeting Kenedy and another goalkeeper to provide competition for Illan Meslier.

McGrath has claimed no progress has been made on a deal for Kenedy, who has been loaned out to Watford, Newcastle United, Getafe, Granada and Flamengo during his time at Chelsea.

The reported interest in another goalkeeper raises question marks over the future of Kristoffer Klaesson, who is currently understudy to first choice Meslier.

Leeds reignite interest in O'Brien

Leeds United are back in pursuit of Huddersfield Town midfielder Lewis O'Brien and are preparing a fresh bid.

That is according to The Sun, who claim the Whites are prepared to pay the £10m required to trigger a release clause in his contract.

He has continued to be a mainstay of the Terriers midfield this season and could present an alternative to Brenden Aaronson if a deal cannot be struck for the heavily-linked Red Bull Salzburg star.

Harrison outlines benefit of injury crisis

Leeds United winger Jack Harrison has admitted the injury crisis which has engulfed the club can only be of benefit to the mental strength of the squad.

Although the 25-year-old has managed to steer clear of injury this season, many of his teammates have not been quite as fortunate and Whites boss Marcelo Bielsa has been forced to raid the under-23s.

However, Harrison has admitted there could be benefits to what the club have had to handle.

Speaking to LeedsLive as he gave away a shirt which was raffled to raise funds for Yorkshire Cancer Research, Harrison said: "I think we've been really unfortunate with injuries this season and with one thing and another but I think it can only help with that mental strength and the fortitude coming into a crucial part of the season where we need as many points as we can get."
