Leeds United news as Whites forward admits leaving Arsenal was 'good decision'

Here are the Leeds United morning headlines on Friday, September 23.

Leeds forward admits it was a 'good decision' to leave Arsenal for Elland Road

Leeds United striker Sam Greenwood has admitted that his move to Elland Road from Arsenal was a 'good decision' as he prepares for the Whites return after the international break.

The 20-year-old signed for Leeds from the Gunners in 2020 for £1.5 million, but had only joined Arsenal two years previously from Sunderland.

Since joining the Whites, he's featured heavily in the Under-21 setup in the Premier League 2, scoring bags of goals before being moved up to the first team by Jesse Marsch last season.

Speaking to the Athletic, Greenwood claims there's not a lot of difference between the two clubs and that he gets more game time at Leeds than he would've at the Emirates Stadium.

“I just got on with my football down there. It was a massive difference moving from Sunderland to London, a totally different world.

“Coming from Arsenal to here, there isn’t too much difference but I get a lot more opportunities here. I wasn’t as close to the first team at Arsenal as I am here. It’s been a good decision for me.”

Greenwood has made 14 senior appearances for Leeds and has managed to find two assists but he's still without his elusive first goal.

Victor Orta opens up on the Leeds United ambition he's 'obsessing' about

Leeds United’s Victor Orta remains realistic about the club’s progression in the Premier League but he does have European ambitions. The director of football has been at Elland Road since 2017, joining Andrea Radrizzani shortly after his full takeover of the Whites.

As such, he has helped the club win promotion back into the top flight of English football and establish itself in the top flight. However, Orta has more goals to achieve in West Yorkshire and he’d love to see the club make a return to Europe over the next few years.

It’s been 20 years since the Whites last competed in a European competition, with Malaga ending their hopes of UEFA Cup success back in December 2002. That third round defeat came just a year and a half after Leeds competed in the semi-finals of the Champions League during the 2000-01 campaign.

'Dynamite in both legs' - Brian Deane recalls Tony Yeboah's legendary Leeds United spell

Former Leeds United forward Tony Yeboah is responsible for arguably two of the greatest goals ever scored in the Premier League.

His explosive long-range volley which cannoned in off the crossbar and beyond Liverpool goalkeeper David James has gone down as one of the defining moments in Premier League history.

Just four weeks later, Yeboah plucked the ball from out of the air, jinked past his marker and unleashed an unstoppable rocket on the half volley past Paul Heald on his way to a hat-trick at Wimbledon.

Both goals added to the legend of one of the most intriguing talents to arrive on British shores and Brian Deane had a front row seat on his journey to stardom at Elland Road.
