Leeds United news as Whites boss Jesse Marsch admits he deserved his booking in defeat to Brighton

Here are your Leeds United morning headlines for Sunday, August 28.

Jesse Marsch admits he deserved his booking from referee Michael Salisbury against Brighton

Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch believes his booking for remonstrating with referee Michael Salisbury was more than deserved in the Whites 1-0 defeat to Brighton.

Marsch and co fell to a 1-0 defeat to the Seagulls on the south coast courtesy of a second half strike from midfielder Pascal Groß, which ended Leeds' unbeaten start to the new Premier League campaign.

The American appeared to be incredibly animated throughout the course of the contest and was booked on 76 minutes by Salisbury.

And the Leeds boss believes Salisbury was more than justified in his decision to book him for his touchline behaviour.

"Yeah, absolutely, I thought my behaviour at that point deserved the yellow card," said Marsch when asked if his booking was fair.

"But I always say, when you don’t believe that you’re getting a performance out of the referee I think you have two options: to sit there and take it or to escalate your behaviour to try to make a point to see if you can affect the way decisions are getting made.

"Sometimes it works for you, sometimes it works against you. But I’ll never be a guy that just sits there and takes it, that’s not my style.

"We had him (Salisbury) as the fourth official against Chelsea (a 3-0 win last weekend) and I like his demeanour. I just think he didn’t have the best performance today. I know I let him know that maybe a couple too many times."

There were plenty of talking points from the game, which even saw Leeds boss Jesse Marsch booked for remonstrating with referee Michael Salisbury.

Marc Roca reflects on Leeds United's 'unlucky' defeat at Brighton as unbeaten start is ended

Leeds United summer signing Marc Roca has called his side “unlucky” after their unbeaten start to the season was ended with a 1-0 defeat at Brighton on Saturday afternoon.

The Spanish midfielder, a summer addition from Bayern Munich, had started every Premier League match of the season so far for Jesse Marsch’s side and it was no different down on the south coast where Pascal Gross’s second-half strike proved the difference between the two sides.

Speaking to LUTV, the 25-year-old said: “I think it was not our best performance. I think first half was hard for us. Second half we start better. But they [Brighton] score and we couldn’t score. It’s a disappointment for us but we have another chance on Tuesday.
