Leeds United news as West Ham star discusses dislike of Whites supporters and poor big six record emerges

Here are the latest Leeds United evening headlines on Thursday, 5 May 2022.

Antonio on Leeds fans

West Ham United striker Michail Antonio has labelled Leeds United supporters as the ‘worst’ to play in front of. Antonio netted a late winner at Elland Road earlier in the season for the Hammers and has played against the Whites on several occasions from his time in the Championship.

Leeds fans are renowned for being one of the most hostile in the country, with the likes of Pep Guardiola and Alexandre Lacazette having reserved special praise for them this season. But speaking on the Footballer’s Football Podcast, Antonio revealed he does not share the same view.

He said: “The worst fans I’ve played in front of. I don’t like them to be fair. Millwall or Leeds fans. Those two, they are just… I don’t mind hecklers, but they are over the top for me.”

Big six record

Last weekend saw what could be a crucial twist in the Premier League relegation battle. Both Leeds United and Everton had home fixtures against so-call 'big six' sides, meaning that neither was expected to win. However, whilst Leeds fell to a 4-0 defeat to title-chasing Manchester City, Everton pulled off a shock 1-0 win over Chelsea.

Everton's win meant that they have now picked up 12 points from 11 games against the 'big six'. That record of more than a point per game is the most impressive of the sides outside the 'big six'. That is a huge contrast from Leeds as the Whites are one of only two teams to pick up no points from those sides.

Kamada interest

Leeds United are reportedly eyeing a move for Daichi Kamada from Eintracht Frankfurt if they are able to secure their Premier League status, according to Football Insider. That will be the case with all of the Whites’ current transfer targets going into the summer.

Victor Orta and co will have to re-evaluate their options at the end of the season if Leeds are consigned to the Championship. However, at the moment, there will still be a confidence within the staff and players at Elland Road that they will be able to do enough to stay in the top-flight.
