Leeds United news as survey spells out surge in Whites' USA fanbase

Here are the latest Leeds United evening headlines on Monday, 25 July 2022.

Leeds’ US fanbase

Leeds United are already among the Premier League’s top 10 supported clubs in the USA based on a survey conducted by Samford University. 6,426 fans – based on a random sample of 36.7 million US sports supporters who watched/attended at least one non-USA professional soccer team in 2021 – were asked in January 2022 the Premier League side in which they support.

Despite last season being only Leeds’ second back in the top-flight of English football, they featured alongside all of the big six, Everton, Leicester City and Crystal Palace in the top 10. The Whites’ following across the pond will almost certainly grow in the coming months two, with Jesse Marsch now the head coach and USMNT stars Brenden Aaronson and Tyler Adams joining this summer.

CDK speculation addressed

Club Brugge Head Coach Carl Hoefkens has provided an explanation as to why Leeds United target Charles De Ketelaere was left out of the Belgian club’s first game of the season this weekend.

The 21-year-old was not in the Brugge squad for their 3-2 victory against Genk to open the new season, with his future still very much in the air as Leeds and AC Milan battle it out for the young Belgian's signature.

Hoefkens spoke about the future of De Ketelaere after the game, revealing that the player was excluded from the squad at his own request, as per Calciomercato.com. “I’ll do anything for him… but it’s all a little too much for Charles,” he said.

New signings rated

Leeds United brought their pre-season tour of Australia to an end on Friday following their 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace. The Whites beat Brisbane Roar in their opener last Thursday before losing to Aston Villa on Sunday morning, with plenty of positives to take and lessons to learn.

A concerted period of time with the squad has given Jesse Marsch the chance to implement his philosophy and there were signs Down Under that the players are picking it up. Meanwhile, defensive frailties were highlighted as a high-line was at times exposed to runners in behind.

One of the most exciting aspects of pre-season, however, was the chance for Whites fans to see this summer’s arrivals in action. Marsch included six new-boys in his 26-man squad Down Under and all featured to some degree. The majority of Leeds’ signings made a positive early impression, but it was not all
