Ex-Leeds United man tells Whites not to fear 'really important' Bournemouth trip
Leeds United and manager Javi Gracia must not fear their trip to relegation rivals Bournemouth according to former Whites defender Dominic Matteo. The Whites travel down to the south coast this weekend in what is a vital match for their chances of staying in the Premier League next season, with a win making the gap to the bottom three a possible four points with four games remaining.
And with Leeds still to play Manchester City, Newcastle United and Tottenham in those remaining matches, the fixtures against bottom-half sides West Ham and the Cherries look to be their only way of securing more points.
"They have done okay this season, but for Bournemouth, staying up in the Premier League every year is their priority," Matteo said on his LUTV preview of this weekend's clash.
"They are a team, from my point of view, Leeds United should be going there and getting results and I wouldn’t be fearing going there. But on the other side of the coin, they will think that’s a game they can win and get them safe. It’s going to be a really important game."
Soccer Saturday pundits all say same thing about Leeds
All four pundits on this afternoon's Soccer Saturday believe Leeds United will fail to stay up as they head down south to face Bournemouth this weekend.
Paul Merson, Clinton Morrison, Kris Boyd and Michael Dawson all admitted that they thought Leeds would finish in 18th, ahead of Everton and Southampton but would just miss out on survival.
"I'm going to go with Leeds," Merson started.
"Yeah, I think Leeds as well," Morrison continued.
"Leeds for me," Boyd added.
"I hope not Leeds, I like to go and watch them Jeff [Stelling]," Dawson finished. "But I'm going to say Leeds, I think Leicester are probably going to win on Monday night [against Everton] and that'll probably be enough."
Dean Smith slams broadcasters as Leeds United rivals Leicester unhappy scheduling 'not right'
Leicester City manager Dean Smith has slammed broadcasters after it was revealed that his side would play four consecutive matches on Monday nights as the season run-in approaches. The Foxes will now play all but one game - their final one of the season - after every other side around them in the table has played theirs, which Smith believes will put added pressure to stay in the Premier League on his players.
Leeds United's relegation rivals will face West Ham on a Sunday, their last match of the season on May 28th, but will have to climb out of the bottom three before then with a dodgy schedule.
"I'm not so sure that I agree with the scheduling when there's a lot of big games being played, and there's a lot of teams who are involved in getting out of a relegation battle," Smith said in his Friday press conference.
