Leeds United news as second Manchester City youngster linked as Phillips makeweight

Second Manchester City youngster linked as Phillips makeweight

Last week it was reported that Leeds United have an interest in Manchester City youngster, Romeo Lavia. It has been though that the midfielder could be used in any deal for Kalvin Phillips, as City aggressively pursue a deal for the England international.

However, it has now emerged that the Whites have an interest in another City youngster, who could be used as a makeweight instead. The Athletic have stated that Leeds would like to take attacking midfielder James McAtee 'whether permanently or on-loan'.

City are reportedly keen to keep the midfielder - who scored 18 goals in Premier League Two last season - around the club but are it is said "their resolve may be tested should the Phillips pursuit drag on."

Jack Wilshere urges Arsenal to secure Raphinha deal

North London rivals, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have both been linked to Leeds' Raphinha in the last week, as the expected bid from Barcelona has failed to arrive thus far this summer. The Catalan club have severe financial issues which have slowed them in the market and former Arsenal midfielder, Jack Wilshere has encouraged his old club to secure a deal for the winger.

He told TalkSport "For someone who's only been in England for two years, he's got a lot of experience. He came to England and just clicked straight away. He was in a relegation battle last year so he knows he's up for a fight. I think he'd be a good one for Arsenal. He'll be expensive, of course he will."

PSG 'make formal approach' for Phillips

Alongside Manchester City's firm interest for Phillips, there are now reports that Leeds have received a 'formal approach' regarding the midfielder from Paris Saint-Germain. The Mirror have reported that the French champions are 'keen to exploit' the fact that Phillips has not signed a new contract at Elland Road, whilst they also state that he could 'triple' his wages to £200,000 a week in Paris.
