Leeds United news as Roy Keane outlines key solution for the Whites '100 miles an hour' style

Here are your Leeds United evening headlines for Thursday, January 19.

Roy Keane outlines key solution for '100 miles an hour' Leeds United

Roy Keane believes Leeds United require more 'calmness' in order to translate performances into results in the Premier League.

The Whites sit two points above the relegation zone in 14th place, and have registered just four wins from 18 games in the Premier League this term. Keane warns that it 'takes time to build' in the top-flight, but admits that the Whites need to start picking up results.

"He [Marsch] talks a good game," Keane told ITV4. "Even in his interview after the Villa defeat, he was really happy with the performance. But obviously you've got to back that up, you need some results along the way.

"But I think Leeds are doing ok, it's tough going, they've had a couple of injuries. It's three seasons back now in the Premier League, it takes time to build a club but you know what you are going to get with Leeds.

"We know what their DNA is. They are 100 miles an hour, with the ball and without it. They are going to give up chances, but they look like they can score goals as well.

"They just need a bit more calmness to their play. I enjoy watching them but if you are a Leeds fan, you just want a bit more consistency, and one or two more wins to go with the high-energy they've got."

Joe Gelhardt 'nearing Leeds United exit' with Championship move on the cards

Leeds United youngster Joe Gelhardt is close to re-joining Championship side Wigan Athletic. That’s according to The Athletic, who are reporting the forward is mulling over the loan offer until the end of the campaign.

Gelhardt has struggled to secure regular minutes under Jesse Marsch this season so far, picking up just 202 Premier League minutes mostly made up of short cameo appearances off the bench. The addition of club record signing Georginio Rutter is unlikely to bolster Gelhardt’s standing within the squad as the second half of the season approaches, nor will the fitness and recent form of Patrick Bamford.

As such, a loan move may suit the 20-year-old and if he does return to the DW Stadium, he’ll be keen to send out a message of intent with his performances in the Championship. Wigan are currently propping up the second tier, sitting four points adrift of safety and staring down the barrel of relegation to League One.

Leeds United revenue figures show Whites' strength over Newcastle and Premier League rivals

Leeds United have featured inside the top 20 of Deloitte’s 2023 Football Money League for the first time since the 2022/03 season. The Whites sit 18th in the list, which is dominated by Premier League clubs, having generated a revenue of £189m last year.

That’s an increase of £20m from the previous year’s total and it’s enough to see them recognised as one of the most successful teams in the world in terms of revenue. Of course, a huge chunk of that money comes from broadcast rights, 61 per cent in fact, but Leeds have also seen a big rise in commercial revenue over the last year.

The Whites brought in £33m through commercial avenues over 2021, but last year’s figures were increased to £51.7m, making up more than a quarter of the club’s overall income. As a result, Leeds rank higher than plenty of other Premier League teams in the Football Money League, with Aston Villa, Everton, Newcastle United, Brighton, Wolves and Southampton amongst those trailing in their wake.
