Leeds United news as reported summer target wins award and Carragher praises Jesse Marsch

Here are the latest Leeds United evening headlines on Wednesday, 27 April 2022.

Leeds target wins award

Reported Leeds United target Calvin Ramsay has won this season's Scottish Football Writers’ Association Young Player of the Year award. Ramsay has enjoyed an excellent breakthrough campaign at Aberdeen where his performances have earned him some big recognition.

Leeds are reportedly battling alongside Liverpool for the 18-year-old’s signature, who is the latest of a string of top quality Scottish full-backs. Ramsay has made 32 appearances in an otherwise difficult season for the Dons, registering four assists and one goal.

Carragher’s Marsch praise

Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch will prove to be a 'great addition to the Premier League'. That is the verdict of Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher, who has been impressed by his 'energy, personality and the detail' when the Whites boss speaks.

Marsch replaced the hugely popular Marcelo Bielsa in the Elland Road hotseat and after losing his first two games, has guided Leeds to a run of five matches unbeaten. United still find themselves in a relegation battle, though, with just five points separating them from 18th placed Everton in the Premier League table.

Nonetheless, the former New York Red Bulls, RB Salzburg and RB Leipzig boss has impressed Carragher and feels the Leeds supporters will 'take him to their heart'.

"I really like him," the former Liverpool and England defender told Sky Sports' Monday Night Football. "They loved the last manager and I’m sure they’ll take him to their heart. For us, the answer that he gives you, the detail he gives you. I can understand, sometimes, when you talk to managers at different times, they’re a little guided and I totally respect that.

"It’s nice at times, we looked at the wide players, it gets clarified by the manager. It’s not just that detail, it’s the energy when he speaks. I’ve been really impressed, not just the results, but his personality. I think he’ll be a great addition to the Premier League."

Leeds close in on unwanted record

Leeds United are closing in on breaking an unwanted Premier League record this season. The Whites have picked up 93 bookings over the course of the campaign and are just two away from passing Sunderland’s total of 94 in the 2014/15 season, according to Twitter account LUFC Data.

Nine players from across the squad have picked up at least five bookings or more this term, with Junior Firpo, Diego Llorente, Pascal Struijk, Adam Forshaw, Tyler Roberts, Stuart Dallas, Daniel James, Raphinha and Rodrigo Moreno all having entered the referee's book on multiple occasions. Despite that, though, Leeds have been shown a red card just once all season, with Struijk’s controversial red card against Liverpool back in September – in which Harvey Elliott suffered a serious injury – the only occasion so far.
