Leeds United news as rediscovered 'clinical edge' praised and Drameh up for Cardiff City award

Here are the latest Leeds United morning headlines on Thursday, April 14.

Whelan hails ruthless edge

Noel Whelan has hailed the ruthless edge Leeds United showed in front of goal in the 3-0 defeat at Watford on Saturday. Putting away chances is something Leeds have notoriously struggled with in recent years but at the weekend, the Whites were very clinical in their finishing.

But in what was a scrappy affair at Vicarage Road, with chances at a premium at both ends, it was Leeds’ quality that made the difference. Speaking to Football Insider, Whelan put that improvement in the final third down to Jesse Marsch.

He said: “This has been coming for a while. We kept talking about percentages, and chances created – our record in front of goal simply wasn’t good enough.

“But I think we saw against Watford that our clinical, cutting-edge game was back again. Rodrigo, Raphinha, and Harrison all getting involved and getting on the scoresheet. It’s exactly what you want.

“To be that clinical was a real breath of fresh air because it has been coming for a while. We’ve finally got that ruthless edge back, and it’s thanks to Jesse Marsch’s transformation of the side.”

Drameh up for Cardiff POTY

Leeds United loanee Cody Drameh has been nominated for Cardiff City's Player of the Year award. The right-back has been excellent since joining the Bluebirds on loan in January, starting every game he's been available for.

Drameh has made 16 appearances in total, chipping in with three assists. He has set up goals against Peterborough United, Blackpool and Stoke City whilst at the Bluebirds. He's also helped Steve Morrison's side to five clean sheets in that time.

U23s ticket milestone

Leeds United have confirmed that 10,000 tickets have now been sold for the under-23s' clash with Manchester City at Elland Road on Friday, April 22. The young Whites have been in excellent form of late, being Manchester United, Liverpool and Crystal Palace on home soil, where in excess of 9,000 supporters were there to watch.

It is terrific support for an U23s game and the record for an attendance at the level could be broken if sales keep rising by the day, with the current feat standing at 16,935, with Everton currently holding that record. Despite their up-turn in form, the Whites are four points above the drop zone from Division One and need crucial points from their final three matches to stay up.
