Leeds United news as Rebekah Bass lifts lid on Elland Road celebrations for Lionesses' Euro win

Here are the latest Leeds United morning headlines on Monday, 1 August 2022.

Bass on Lionesses' Euro success

Leeds United women’s player Rebekah Bass is hopeful England’s European Championships success can benefit the Whites. England were crowned champions of Europe on Sunday evening as they defeated Germany 2-1 after extra time at Wembley.

Upon the announcement of the result at half time of Leeds’ win over Cagliari, supporters inside Elland Road were heard celebrating the Lionesses success. Speaking to LUTV, Bass is hopeful that is a sign of things to come as she hopes for more people to go down and watch Leeds women in action.

She said: “Massively yeah, like you say when they won the European championships it came out and everyone was singing it’s coming home. The men were celebrating with us, so it’s nice to see they were enjoying the game and hopefully they can come watch us this season and kick on from there.”

Marsch on Klich

Uncertainty surrounds Mateusz Klich’s Leeds United future with a need for minutes ahead of the World Cup raising doubts for Jesse Marsch. The head coach named the Poland international on his bench vs Cagliari on Sunday night along with fringe options Helder Costa and Ian Poveda.

While those two wingers have long been considered on the exit list this summer, as a firm part of the Elland Road furniture, Klich’s slide down the pecking order has been significant. After failing to start any matches in Australia he failed to get onto the field tonight with the new season only six days away.

Addressing the situation of Costa, Klich and Poveda, Marsch said: “They’ve done a really good job with the uncertainty of the situation, really working hard in pre-season and being part of the group and then we’ll see how that moves forward.”

Harrison number

Leeds United winger Jack Harrison could be set to ditch the number 22 shirt ahead of the upcoming Premier League season in favour of the number 11.

Harrison had previously worn the number 22 for the last four seasons since his arrival at Elland Road.

But in the Whites' final pre-season game against Cagliari, Harrison donned number 11 which was previously worn in the Premier League by the late Gary Speed and it was vacated this summer when Tyler Roberts departed to join QPR on loan.
