Here are the latest Leeds United morning headlines on Monday, 23 May.
Raphinha display praised
Ian Wright has praised Leeds United winger Raphinha for stepping up to the plate when it mattered against Brentford on Sunday. Raphinha won and scored the spot-kick that sent Leeds on their way as they confirmed Premier League survival on the final day.
After a lightning start to his second campaign at Elland Road, Raphinha’s form had dropped during the second half of the season but was back to his best in the crucial win at Brentford. Speaking on Match of the Day, Wright was impressed with how he held his nerve from the spot.

“Raphinha has finally come to the party for them when they needed him the most, 11 goals and three assists. A player with his capability, he should’ve got more. But in this game, he looked up for it.
“Every opportunity he got to shoot, he took it. For the penalty, great skill, he got up and takes a very good penalty under immense pressure.”
Aaronson deal
There was much more than a single signing hanging on Leeds United securing their Premier League safety, with the club having worked so hard to return to the top flight two years ago. But with safety assured thanks to a 2-1 win at Brentford and Burnley losing at home to Newcastle United, the club can set about their summer plans under Jessie Marsch with renewed vigour.
That means getting to work in the transfer market and the first deal expected to be completed is that of USA international Brenden Aaronson. The 21-year-old attacking midfielder could have been a Whites player already after two failed attempts to bring him into the club in the January transfer window.
Richards happiness
Micah Richards has admitted his joy at seeing Leeds United survive relegation from the Premier League on the final day of the season. A 2-1 win at Brentford when it mattered most, helped by Burnley’s defeat against Newcastle, ensured the Whites will play in the top flight for a third straight campaign in August.
Raphinha and Jack Harrison’s goals were the all-important finishing touches to a season that won’t live long in the memory of Leeds fans. Although, the final day drama at Brentford will be very hard to forget in a hurry, especially for those housed in the away end.
Richards, who grew up in Chapeltown, spoke of his excitement at seeing them maintain their Premier League status. He said on Sky Sports: “I’ve got to be impartial and I feel sorry for Burnley but, being from Leeds, you want Leeds to do well. It’s an incredible story.”
