Leeds United news as Raphinha hints at Barcelona stay after Supercopa de Espana triumph

Here are your Leeds United evening headlines for Monday, January 16.

Raphinha hints at Barcelona stay after Supercopa de Espana triumph

Former Leeds United winger Raphinha has hinted that he wants to stay at FC Barcelona, despite speculation surrounding his future at the Camp Nou.

Raphinha started on the bench for Barca as they condemned arch-rivals Real Madrid to a 3-1 defeat in the Supercopa de Espana final in Riyadh on Sunday.

The Brazilian international, who has been linked with a big-money move to Arsenal, replaced Ousmane Dembele 12 minutes from time. And after the game, Raphinha declared his intention of chasing more trophies with the Spanish heavyweights.

“This is my first trophy with this giant club, this enormous shirt of FC Barcelona - it’s incredible,” he said. “And so now we go for more trophies.”

Raphinha has started just one of Barca's last seven games in La Liga, and has registered three goals and five assists in 23 appearances across all competitions this term.

Championship club in talks over loan move for Leeds United youngster Joe Gelhardt

Blackburn Rovers are reportedly locked in negotiations with Leeds United to sign Joe Gelhardt on loan, according to the Lancashire Telegraph. The talented youngster has started just one Premier League game - the 5-2 defeat to Brentford in September - all season.

Poached from Wigan Athletic almost three years ago, a lack of first-team opportunities is threatening to stifle a promising career. Even a recent injury crisis has not allowed Gelhardt to stake his claim under Jesse Marsch.

Dropping down a division temporarily could give the 20-year-old a platform to show exactly why Leeds rate him so highly. Gelhardt’s impressive goal record for England’s junior sides points towards a player with huge potential.

Max Wober reveals his father's Leeds United connection after Premier League debut

Leeds United's newest signing Max Wober has admitted that his father has long been an admirer of the Whites after making his Premier League debut against Aston Villa.

The Austrian international replaced Pascal Struijk after 67 minutes against Unai Emery's side which marked his first minutes as a Whites player in the English top-flight.

Having joined from Red Bull Salzburg earlier this month, the centre-back could bring a new dynamic to manager Jesse Marsch's side, with the 24-year-old potentially being the piece to solve Leeds' defensive woes.
