Leeds United news as Premier League rivals enter 'advanced talks' with ex-Whites boss

Here are the latest Leeds United evening headlines on Monday, 14 November.

Bielsa talks

Former Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa is reportedly in advanced talks with Bournemouth over becoming their next manager. That is according to Football Insider, who claim the Cherries have offered him the job after negotiations took place during the weekend.

Bielsa has been out of work since leaving Leeds in February earlier this year and is regarded as a legend at Elland Road after guiding the club to promotion in 2020. Gary O'Neil has been Bournemouth's interim manager for the last 11 matches since Scott Parker's sacking, but it appears as though they have set their sights on appointing Bielsa.

Ref watch

Former Premier League official Dermott Gallagher believes Tottenham were very lucky to be awarded Harry Kane's goal against Leeds United. Whites' goalkeeper Illan Meslier was seemingly fouled by Spurs defender Clement Lenglet in the build-up to the goal, ending up in the back of his own net when attempting to punch the ball clear from the corner.

The ball dropped to Harry Kane on the edge of the six-yard box, who prodded the ball into the back of the net to equalise. Despite remonstrations from Leeds players, VAR did not intervene.

Speaking on Ref Watch on Sky Sports, Gallagher said: "I think Lenglet clearly fouls the goalkeeper for me. The clue for me, is the goalkeeper is in the air there he's got to play the ball. I think Lenglet goes into him and they're very lucky to have a goal."

World Cup earnings

Leeds United will receive at least £484,000 in compensation from FIFA for allowing their players to represent their countries during the group stages of the 2022 World Cup. The Premier League paused for six weeks on Sunday, as FIFA prepare to host the World Cup during the winter for the first time in the history of the tournament.

Over 100 players from 20 Premier League clubs are heading to Qatar, and FIFA will pay around £8,500 per player, per day. There will be six days of training before the tournament and a 13-day group stage meaning each player will earn their club a total of £161,500 over the 19 days.

However, that amount could increase depending on whether a player progresses beyond the group stage. Three Leeds players are heading to the World Cup, with Brenden Aaronson and Tyler Adams starring for the United States and Rasmus Kristensen representing Euro 2020 semi-finalists Denmark.
