Leeds United news as midfielder issues defiant message after horror show

Here are the latest Leeds United evening headlines on Thursday, 24 February 2022.

Bielsa defends style

Marcelo Bielsa has defended Leeds United’s style of play after the Whites were hammered 6-0 by Liverpool on Wednesday night.

Leeds now boast the worst defensive record in the league and have conceded 16 goals in their last four matches since the resumption of the season earlier this month.

But with Leeds now sitting in a very precarious position in the table, Bielsa does not think a change in style would help their current situation.

"How am I not going to question what I'm doing? Of course, I question myself," Bielsa said.

"When you ask yourself why the things that are happening to us, are happening, the question is I don't think a change of style is going to change what's happening to us.”

Forshaw admits gulf in class

Leeds United midfielder Adam Forshaw has admitted there was a huge gulf in class between the Whites and Liverpool last night.

The Reds inflicted yet more misery on Leeds as they ran out emphatic 6-0 winners at Anfield, with Marcelo Bielsa’s side now sitting perilously close to the bottom three.

Forshaw believes that while the defeat has hit the squad very hard, they must now get up for another huge game on Saturday as Leeds look to stop the rot.

“It was two different teams in class,” Forshaw told Leeds' media channel.

“We started ok and then gave (away) some sloppy goals. There is no hiding from it, you can't analyse it too much now but we will break it down tomorrow.

“It's hard not to let it affect you, I won’t lie.

“We’ve got an important game on Saturday so we've got to move on quickly as well at the same time.”

Talking points

Leeds United’s 6-0 defeat against Liverpool on Wednesday night raised more question marks over the current state of affairs at the club.

The Whites are now just three points clear of the bottom three having played two more games than 18th placed Burnley.

After another defensive disaster, more supporters than ever are beginning to ask whether the current approach is going to keep them out of trouble.
