Leeds United news as McCoist labels Roca's miss 'worse' than Bamford's in Leicester draw

Here are your latest Leeds United headlines for Wednesday, April 26.

McCoist on Bamford miss

Leeds United fans will be waking up on Wednesday morning still wondering how Patrick Bamford was unable to convert a golden late chance to give the Whites a much-needed win. However, pundit Ally McCoist has debated whether Marc Roca's miss from a corner was actually 'worse' while discussing the 1-1 draw with Leicester City at Elland Road.

He told talkSPORT via HITC: "“Do you know something, this will be interesting Leeds fans, I actually think Roca’s header could be worse, right before it. Where he just heads it off the goalkeeper. It’s up there, I really do.

“Bamford has to score. I know it’s an obvious thing to say, he has just mis-hit it, rather than meet it. He is trying to direct it, rather than let it come off him.

"He has to be scoring it, by the way. But the header, the header, it goes anywhere, it’s a goal. Just head it down.”

Obviously there's a big chance at end of the game. Do you feel it's a game you should have won or do you think it was a fair result?

"To be honest in this moment, I don't know. I think you have one more point but after competing in the game as we did, starting winning and managing the game during the most part of, of it is hard to get only one point.

"Even after conceding the goal we've had the most clearest chance from a corner kick with Marc Roca. We have to do to keep going to preparing this game as better as possible and try to get the three points in in next game."

Two points dropped

Leeds United would have had Tuesday’s date with Leicester City circled on the calendar for some time. The game against the Foxes, who remain one of the four teams below Leeds in the Premier League table at present, was heaped with pressure but it represented a chance for the Whites to better their situation.

It was an opportunity to take points off a relegation rival and they certainly did that, but the 1-1 draw felt like a huge missed opportunity for Leeds with time running out at the bottom of the table. Leeds were fortunate not to fall behind early in the contest as Youri Tielemans found the back of the net with a fine finish only to see his effort chalked off by VAR.

They rallied well, though, and took the lead through Luis Sinisterra’s headed effort and for a large part of the game they were the better side. But the contest swung in Leicester’s direction in the second half and the Whites' bowing backline finally broke when Jamie Vardy found of the back of the net late in the day.
