Leeds United news as Marsch praises 'elite' Whites star, defender reportedly set for new deal

Here are the latest Leeds United evening headlines on Thursday, 1 December.

Marsch hails 'elite' Adams

Leeds United head coach Jesse Marsch has hailed Whites and USA star Tyler Adams after the 23-year-old helped Gregg Berhalter's side progress to the knockout stages of the FIFA World Cup.

Having become his nation's youngest captain at a World Cup since 1950, Adams has impressed on and off the pitch. His response to a politically-fuelled question from an Iranian journalist in a pre-match press conference was impeccable, whilst he has continued to win plaudits for executing a disciplined midfield role to perfection.

Such displays will have come as little surprise to Leeds fans, however, with Adams adapting to Premier League life seamlessly. The summer signing from RB Leipzig has featured in 13 out of 14 league games, quickly becoming a fan favourite alongside compatriot and teammate Brenden Aaronson at Elland Road.

His abilities are not lost on Marsch, who first came across Adams as a teenager at New York Red Bulls, either. The American boss told Men In Blazers host Roger Bennett: “Tyler, for me, when he can play with confidence and intensity and display his athleticism and his intelligence combined, he can be elite.

"And I knew that before he came to Leeds. And the key for me was just having these kinds of conversations to unearth it more and get him on track and then allow him to be himself. So I don't want to take any credit for Tyler. I think he deserves all the credit, but the fit here at Leeds has been really good for him and for us, so I think it's just got him into a place where he's playing with more confidence and belief in himself than he ever has.”

Warrington to be accompanied by another Whites star

Crysencio Summerville will join Josh Warrington on his ring walk for the IBF World Featherweight Title defence against Luis Alberto Lopez later this month. The Leeds United fan retained his featherweight title by defeating Kiko Martinez earlier this year and is close to a number of Whites' players.

Warrington will take part in his fifth title defence and Summerville, who has scored in each of his last four appearances for the Whites, will accompany the fighter on the way to the ring, carrying his belt.

The 32-year-old fighter was pictured at Thorp Arch earlier this week, meeting the likes of Stuart Dallas, Jack Harrison, Rodrigo Moreno, Adam Forshaw and Summerville.

It will not be the first time a Leeds player has accompanied Warrington on fight night, with defender Luke Ayling at his last bout with Martinez, while the likes of Pablo Hernandez, Liam Cooper, Lucas Radebe and Vinnie Jones have also joined Warrington in the ring.

Defender reportedly set to pen new deal

Leeds United have reportedly agreed a new five-year deal with defender Pascal Struijk. Journalist Fabrizio Romano claims the Whites have drafted up and agreed terms with the Netherlands defender.

Struijk has played a key part in the Whites' survival bid last season and has been one of the standout performers this campaign, in an unorthodox left-back slot.

Romano claims the Whites have offered the 23-year-old improved terms to reflect Struijk's standing within the squad.

He tweeted: "Leeds have reached an agreement with Pascal Struijk on new contract, it will be valid until 2027 — it’s done. #LUFC Documents are drafted — improved salary and new deal will be making Struijk one of key players of the club, after brilliant first part of the season.
