Liam Cooper lifts lid on Max Wober's arrival and looks ahead to Aston Villa

Max Wober became Leeds' first signing of the January transfer window when he completed his move Red Bull Salzburg last week. The centre-back will provide competition in defence at Elland Road, but club captain Liam Cooper insists the rivalry for places will have a positive impact.

"It's good, it's healthy competition," he told BBC West Yorkshire Sport Daily. "I think any any competition at any level is always healthy, especially in a group like this. Max has come in and he's a lovely guy and the boys have took to him.

"We're quite an easy group to come in and and get along with. There's a lot of good lads down there and we're such a welcoming group so he'll have no problems that side of it."

Jesse Marsch's side take on Aston Villa on Friday night and Cooper insisted that his team know what they need to do pick up three points having failed to win in their last four matches in the league.

He said: "We go there with a plan. We've always been in good games with them and there is always that bit of 'nitty gritty' there with with Aston Villa, it's going to be a great game under the lights. We go there confident and we know when when we play to our best and we have 15/16 players bang on it, we know we can beat anybody. We've proven that this season and we've got to go and get a big performance and hopefully we can do that.

"We need to stop focusing on things elsewhere and focus on stuff we can control. We have got to have about 15/16 players who are ready to go on and put a right shift in and come out with three points."

Wilfried Gnonto's Leeds United progress detailed as Jesse Marsch discusses potential and competition

Jesse Marsch couldn’t be happier with the way Wilfried Gnonto continues to settle into his Leeds United line-up. Gnonto only made his debut for the Whites in October, in the win over Liverpool at Anfield, but he has already established himself as one of the brightest talents in the squad and his career is only moving in one direction.

The forward bagged his first goal last time out in the Premier League, finishing with aplomb against West Ham United after getting himself on the end the move he started at Elland Road. That was the 19-year-old’s fourth league start for the club and given his current form, he won’t be relinquishing his spot in United’s XI any time soon.

Senne Lammens sends social media hint amid Leeds United transfer links

Speculation surrounding Leeds United's pursuit of Club Brugge goalkeeper Senne Lammens has drastically risen after the shot-stopper followed the official Instagram accounts of the club and Jesse Marsch.

Recent reports have linked Lammens with a January move to Elland Road as Marsch's side look to bolster their options between the sticks. Illan Meslier, Kristoffer Klaesson and Joel Robles are all currently at the American's disposal, yet it appears the club may well be keen to also bring in the Belgian youngster.
