Leeds United news as Liam Cooper excused from Scotland squad as Arsenal join race for Whites man

Here are the latest Leeds United evening headlines on Friday, 10 June.

Cooper excused from Scotland squad

Scotland manager Steve Clark has confirmed Leeds United defender Liam Cooper has left the squad ahead of the final two matches. Clarke’s side overcame the disappointment of their 3-1 World Cup play-off semi-final defeat to Ukraine with a 2-0 win over Armenia on Wednesday.

Scotland now face trips to Republic of Ireland and Armenia to close their June international period, but will be without Cooper. Clarke has confirmed that it is not injury-related, but instead because he is getting married.

He said: "We've lost a couple. I mentioned way back at the start about wedding dates and whatever so Zander Clark and Liam Cooper have both left the squad to go away and get married and we wish them well.”

Arsenal keen on Raphinha

Arsenal are the latest club to be credited with an interest in Leeds United winger Raphinha. They join Barcelona and a number of their Premier League rivals in the hunt for the 25-year-old whose future is very much up in the air.

It looked as though a Camp Nou switch would be forthcoming this summer, regardless of if the Whites were able to stay in the Premier League on the final day. Although, the financial problems faced by Barca indicate that they don’t quite have the money that Leeds are expecting to bring in for their prized asset.

Those issues with money are not the same in the Premier League and the Gunners are likely to be able to meet the price tag set on Raphinha. According to The Telegraph, they are now in the hunt for the Brazil international.

Retained list

Leeds United have revealed their retained list as Laurens De Bock has been released after seven league appearances in his four years at the club. Three other players: Josh Galloway, Alfie Hughes and Bobby Kamwa are all also set to depart.

It comes as the summer transfer window opens today, with players able to officially joined from the UK and become Leeds United players.
