Leeds United star Tyler Adams' classy response to Iranian journalist amid US discrimination question
Tyler Adams' classy response to an Iranian journalist has seen his stock rise off the field.
Ahead of the United States' final game of Group B at the World Cup in Qatar, the Leeds United midfielder spoke with the press about the build-up to the game and ongoing issues in Iran.
After apologising to the journalist over the pronunciation of Iran, Adams went on to discuss how he felt representing the United States even though the journalist cited discrimination in the country.
Black Lives Matter was an area that the journalist focused on, with the death of George Floyd a catalyst for action and protests across the globe in 2020.
"My apologies on the mispronunciation of your country, that being said, there's discrimination everywhere you go," said Adams.
"One thing that I've learned, especially from living abroad in the past years and having to fit into different cultures and assimilate into different cultures, is that in the US we're continuing to make progress every single day."
Leeds United chairman Andrea Radrizzani expresses Tyler Adams pride after class act at World Cup
Andrea Radrizzani has revealed his pride in Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams for his classy response to an Iranian journalist at the World Cup in Qatar.
The United States captain was put before the media ahead of their final game of the group against Iran when he was questioned by a rather frosty journalist.
The journalist in question corrected Adams on his pronunciation of Iran, which he apologised for, before later being asked how he felt to represent a country that still had discrimination in it against black people.
It came after Adams said he supported Iranian people in their own fight after hundreds have died in protests following the death in police custody of the 22-year-old Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini.
And Radrizzani took to social media to voice his pride at how Adams handled himself during the press conference.
