Leeds United news as Joe Gelhardt admits chances to start are an opportunity rather than a burden

Here are the latest Leeds United evening headlines on Sunday, September 11, 2022.

'I don't see it as a weight," says Joe Gelhardt

Leeds United striker Joe Gelhardt does not buy into the potential pressure being placed upon him when he is asked to lead the line for Jesse Marsch's Whites this term.

Injuries to Patrick Bamford and Rodrigo have seen Gelhardt once again thrust into a starting spot for Leeds. At just 20-years-old, Gelhardt is still learning his craft, which is hard to do when your training ground is the Premier League.

But despite this, the Liverpool born forward sees his chance to start games for Leeds as an opportunity to continue his growth.

"I don't see it as a weight, I see it more as an opportunity for myself," Gelhardt told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

"I don't really feel pressure, I just try to go onto the pitch and do what's best for the team and play my game. I'm grateful for the opportunities I'm getting to play in the Premier League.

"Whenever I step out on the field I don't feel too much pressure – maybe a bit of nerves before the game but as soon as that whistle goes, it's just like any other game for me, really."

Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch told to change his ways or risk reputation

Former Leeds United defender Danny Mills believes Jesse Marsch needs to change his touchline demeanour in the wake of his red card against Brighton last weekend.

The American was sent off as he watched his side go down to a 5-2 defeat, which sparked clear frustrations. An animated presence on the touchline, Marsch has not been shy about demonstrating his emotions during games. However, Mills believes too much emotion on display is not a good thing.

TalkSPORT regular Mills had this to say on Marsch's touchline presence this season: “He’s a good coach with some very good ideas, but if he keeps going apoplectic on the touchline, then that’s going to detract from what he’s actually doing.

"That’s what you don’t want as a manager and I think there are one or two Leeds fans now saying, ‘Is this really necessary?"
