Leeds United news as Jesse Marsch provides Stuart Dallas update and Ben White 'in contention'

Here are the latest Leeds United evening headlines on Friday, 6 May 2022.

Dallas update

Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch has confirmed Stuart Dallas has undergone successful surgery on the femoral fracture he suffered against Manchester City last week. Dallas was stretchered off in the first half of the defeat after a heavy challenge with Jack Grealish.

As a result of the injury, Dallas went under the knife this week in a surgery that Marsch revealed lasted five and a half hours long. Speaking in his pre-match press conference, though, the United boss revealed that the surgery went well and a full recovery is expected.

He said: “I want to start with Stuart Dallas. He had a successful surgery, it was a long surgery – five and a half hours. But they believe that the outcome was very positive and they say it’ll be a long recovery, but believe it will be a full recovery.

“He has had something like 400-500 messages from fans, family and friends. We know that he’s loved and I think that this moment proved that more than anything.

“I don’t want to speak for Stuart but I’ve heard that he’s been very appreciative of so many people reaching out and extending their concerns and love towards him. We all hope the absolute best for Stuart and we hope is soon pain free and back here in the training centre so we can really start his recovery.”

White in contention

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has revealed that centre-back Ben White is still in contention for Sunday's clash against his former side Leeds United. White spent a season on-loan with Leeds and was instrumental in helping them climb back to the top flight of English football making 49 appearances during his time at Elland Road.

He moved back to parent club Brighton & Hove Albion for the 2020/21 campaign before sealing a move to Arsenal last summer. The 24-year-old missed Arsenal's last game against West Ham with a tight hamstring but could be fit to face off against Leeds on Sunday.

"Ben White is still in contention," said Arteta. "He needs to train tomorrow. For the rest, no news. Everyone should be ok."

Gelhardt praise

Football agent Hayden Evans has revealed that Joe Gelhardt's representative Paul Stretford rates the Leeds United youngster in the same bracket as he did a young Wayne Rooney. As a youngster, Rooney was on Stretford's books and went on to become one of English football's most decorated stars, having burst onto the scene as a teenage sensation at Everton.

Speaking on the 'Leeds That' podcast, football agent Hayden Evans, a Whites supporter who represents a number of young Leeds United players including Charlie Cresswell, stated that Stretford handed Gelhardt some lofty praise.

“I know his agent really well, Paul Stretford," explained Evans. "He was Wayne Rooney’s agent.

"When Stret brought him [Geldhardt] here, he called me and said “I’m bringing one of the best I’ve ever seen to your club, I’m telling you now. I’ll go by that. But we have nurture him just don’t let him burn out.

“His best client at a young age would have been Wayne. So he’s comparing him to Wayne.”
