Leeds United news as Jermaine Beckford wants a 'boring season' and Liverpool sign long-time Whites target

Here are your latest Leeds United evening headlines for Sunday, June 19.

Beckford fancies 'boring season'

Former Leeds United man Jermaine Beckford has admitted he would be happy with a 'boring season' next year, backing a lower mid-table finish as one he would be happy to see.

The Whites stayed up last season by the skin of their teeth, beating Brentford on the final day while Burnley lost at home to Newcastle, and needed too much late drama for any Whites fan to enjoy. Last minute goals against Wolves, Norwich and Brighton in the run-in proved crucial, but ex-Leeds favourite Beckford is looking for hopeful next season might be easier on the blood pressure.

"I'm quite happy having a boring season and finishing 14th, 15th, 16th - 14th or 15th I would be happy with," Beckford told the Yorkshire Evening Post. "Avoiding relegation and not getting pulled into a scrap is ultimately the goal, another season in the Premier League.

"This is our third season in the Premier League now so if we are able to do that again for one more season then we can start looking forward to the future and really building something for the next couple of years. Those foundations and buildings for the next few years, that's exactly what the initial plan was and we are on track to making that a thing."

Reds seal Ramsay move

Liverpool have confirmed the signing of ex-Whites target Calvin Ramsay for an initial fee of £4million plus around £2.5million in add-ons.

The 18-year-old right-back was linked with a move to Leeds at the start of the summer but Jurgen Klopp’s side have swooped in the win the race.

Ramsay was named Scottish Football Writers’ Association’s Young Player of the Year last season after one goal and five assists in 22 league games.

The Liverpool Echo have reported alongside the signing announcement that their interest in Raphinha has now ended.

Marc Roca profile assessed

Leeds United completed their third major deal on Friday when they announced the £10million signing of Marc Roca from Bayern Munich.

Roca spent two seasons with the German champions but only managed 24 appearances as he fought for a place with the outstanding Joshua Kimmich.

The 25-year-old Spaniard should add a touch of class in possession, adding an element of quality and decisive passing in a team that lacked exactly that last season.

Concerns remain, however, about the former Espanyol man’s athleticism and pressing ability, but that can be accounted for with the right midfield partner.
