Leeds United news as Jamie Carragher delivers verdict on Raul Jimenez's Wolves red card

Here are your Leeds United morning headlines on Saturday, March 19.

Carragher delivers red card verdict

Jamie Carragher has delivered his verdict on Raul Jimenez's red card in Wolverhampton Wanderers' remarkable 3-2 defeat against Leeds United. The Mexican was shown a second yellow card for a late tackle on Illan Meslier.

It was a challenge that left Meslier hobbling off the pitch. After Jonny and Francisco Trinicao had given Wolves a two-nil lead, Jimenez's sending off proved to be the turning point in the contest.

Goals from Jack Harrison, Rodrigo and Luke Ayling turned the game on its head to give the Whites a dramatic three points in the West Midlands. In his post-match assessment, Carragher believes that it was harsh for Jimenez to be given a second yellow card.

He told Sky Sports: "Listen, if he gets there before the goalkeeper, Meslier is getting booked for it. No one does anything different, it’s just the goalkeeper gets there first.

"It’s all about the timing, reading the situation. When that ball got played through, I think everyone in the stadium thought Jimenez is clean through here.

"The goalkeeper comes flying out and I winced when I first saw it because the two of them are going at such speed. Jimenez doesn’t do anything like his knee is up or his foot’s up, or he’s put his head somewhere dangerous.

"It’s just a coming together at such speed and that now is endangering an opponent. That’s why I was a little bit uneasy in him getting a second yellow card."

Leeds United came from behind to secure a dramatic late win at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Friday night. Bruno Lage's side were in complete control during the first-half, but the Whites produced a remarkable second-half fightback to secure all three points at Molinuex.

However, it did prove to be a costly night on the injury front as the Whites were forced to make three early substitutions when Patrick Bamford, Diego Llorente and Mateusz Klich all limped off before half-time. And Wolves took advantage of Leeds' problems and scored two quick-fire goals as Jonny and Francisco Trincao gave Bruno Lage's side a healthy cushion.

But the game changed on the hour mark when Raul Jimenez was shown his second yellow card for a late challenge on Illan Meslier, who also had to be substituted. The red card gave Leeds the momentum, though, and they pulled one back through Jack Harrison, before Rodrigo levelled the scoreline moments later.

Neville changes Leeds tune

Gary Neville has emphasised the significance of Leeds United's win over Wolverhampton Wanderers as Jesse Marsch's side produced a remarkable second-half fightback to seal an important three points at Molineux. However, it proved to be a costly start as the Whites were forced to make three early substitutions when Patrick Bamford, Diego Llorente and Mateusz Klich all limped off before half-time.

The red card gave Leeds the momentum, though, and they pulled one back through Jack Harrison, before Rodrigo levelled the scoreline moments later for his second goal in as many matches. And there was still time for the Whites to grab a dramatic late winner.

Luke Ayling brought the ball down inside the area and smashed an effort into the back of the net to send the travelling fans wild, securing the Whites' second successive win in the meantime. It is a result that has moved Leeds seven points clear of the relegation zone with eight Premier League matches to play.

After the game, Neville told Sky Sports: "I had them down at half-time! I can’t believe what I’ve seen in that second half. The red card had a massive impact on the result, but they still had to go and score three goals. That’s a massive, massive night for Leeds United Football Club.

"It was absolute carnage! That’s the type of thing I’d have done (substitutes running on the pitch). It’s absolutely the type of thing you want in football, I know some of the Leeds’ substitutes would’ve been booked but you can’t blame them. They’ve been absolutely down and out in these last few weeks.

"They’ve lost a manager that they love. They’ve got a new manager, but at half-time I thought they were in massive, massive trouble because when I watch them they were an absolute mess."
