Here are your latest Leeds United evening headlines from Friday, June 24.
Summerville in contract talks
Leeds are in talks with Crysencio Summerville over a new contract, according to Whites reporter Phil Hay, as the winger courts interest from the likes of Nottingham Forest and AZ Alkmaar.
Summerville tried to force a loan move away in January after becoming frustrated at a lack of football at either senior or youth level - he played just 1,015 minutes between the two and was often in limbo on the first-team bench - but could be in for a more prominent role after a full pre-season under Jesse Marsch.
“They are talking to Summerville about a new deal. At the moment, they haven’t indicated to him that he would be allowed to go on loan.” The Athletic man told The Phil Hay Show . “I think he, personally, is quite keen to go on loan because, like last season, when he asked to go in January and Hamburg, amongst others, were trying to sign him, he feels like he needs games – you know, it’s the Cody Drameh effect of wanting to get out and play.
“Nottingham Forest like him, Sheffield United like him, I don’t think it’d be in any way difficult to find him a club if Leeds wanted to send him out on loan. But at the moment, they haven’t given him the nod that that’s going to happen.”
The potential departure of Raphinha could open the door further for Summerville, with the 20-year-old able to compete for minutes alongside his eventual replacement.
Phillips replacement options assessed
Despite being relatively quiet on the matter, Manchester City remain confident that they will succeed in their pursuit of Whites midfielder Kalvin Phillips.
The Premier League champions have set their sight in the England international and, with the allure of Champions League football and obvious financial incentives, usually get their way.
Victor Orta and Leeds will have options in place to succeed Phillips, should the 26-year-old move on, with links already to RB Leipzig’s Tyler Adams and TB Salzburg’s Mohamed Camara.
They and another option - Bologna’s Nicolas Dominguez - have been profiled ahead of a potential move to Elland road this summer.
Edmondson with heartfelt leaving message
Ryan Edmondson has posted a heartfelt message on his social channels after leaving Leeds United for League Two outfit Carlisle - joining former England U19 boss Paul Simpson.
The 21-year-old went to Brunton Park on a free transfer and put pen to paper on a two year deal at the club as he searches for more regular first-team football.
Edmondson wrote: “Leeds United, what can I say. You gave me my dream to play for my boyhood club and it’s something that will live with me forever.
“Stepping out on to that pitch was the best day of my life at the age of 16 and it’ll never be forgotten! I want to thank every coach, player and member of staff at Leeds United for everything you have done for me and taught me along my journey. I wish you all the best for the future and hopefully we can meet again”
