Leeds United news as importance of defence emerges & Adams discusses Elland Road atmosphere

Here are the latest Leeds United morning headlines on Thursday, 18 August 2022.

Koch importance

Leeds United have made an impressive start to the campaign with a win and a draw in their opening two Premier League fixtures. The Whites are yet to keep a clean sheet and know they'll have to be at the top of their game if they're to stop Chelsea scoring when they make the trip to Elland Road this weekend.

However, according to The Other 14, an account that compiles statistics for the Premier League that excludes players at top-six clubs, Jesse Marsch may have found the answer. During game week two, Robin Koch had the second-best defensive statistics despite the Whites fluffing a two-goal lead.

Koch registered nine defensive actions - blocking on shot and made eight clearances at St. Mary's. Only Joachim Anderson of Crystal Palace had a better return than the Leeds United defender.

Adams on Elland Road

Tyler Adams has admitted hearing 'Marching on Together' was a moment that gave him goosebumps. The United States international shared a special moment with fellow new arrival Brenden Aaronson prior to the Whites' Premier League opener with Wolves.

The duo both turned in impressive displays as Jesse Marsch's side ran out 2-1 winners over Wolves. Speaking to the Men In Blazers podcast, Adams said: "To walk out in that stadium and hear the anthem 'Marching on Together' for the first time, it gave me goosebumps. The fans are passionate, loyal. How many fans have come up to me in the streets - more than in my entire life.

"I definitely was not expecting that. I was just expecting to be able to walk out, go where I need to and whatever. Fans recognise you, they're passionate and they remember everything."

Brereton-Diaz race

Premier League duo Everton and AFC Bournemouth have entered the race to sign Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton Diaz, according to The Guardian.

The forward has been linked with a move to Leeds United this summer, as Jesse Marsch and his recruitment team continue to explore Charles De Ketelaere alternatives. There is plenty of competition for Brereton Diaz, with Ligue 1 side Nice reportedly lodging an £8.5 million bid for the 23-year-old.

West Ham United have also looked at the Chile international this summer, although are unlikely to follow up on their initial interest, according to the report.
