Ex-Leeds United star Carlton Palmer hospitalised after 'suspected heart attack'
Former Leeds United midfielder and England international Carlton Palmer has been hospitalised after suffering a 'suspected heart attack'.
The 57-year-old, who made 132 appearances for the Whites over three seasons from 1994 until 1997, was preparing to fly to Portugal before the medical emergency happened and he was rushed to hospital.
Fortunately, Palmer was able to tweet out to fans that he was ok, after his heart started 'playing up' during the Sheffield half marathon. He was able to finish the run but was then taken to hospital where he underwent tests.
At 3am this morning, he tweeted: "Just to let everyone know I am ok, being kept in overnight in hospital observation/tests heart played up again in the first mile but I managed to complete the course. Congratulations to my gorgeous wife for going sub two hours love you."
Then this afternoon, he thanked fans for their messages of support, saying: "Thank you so much for all the lovely messages I have being kept in hospital with a suspected small heart attack, they want to find out what has caused this problem so tests are ongoing. I will keep you updated. Gutted I was flying to Portugal at 4pm with @LucyPal16907599."
Leeds United international round-up as Gnonto suffers injury, Kristensen falls to shock defeat
Leeds United have been struck with the news that Wilfried Gnonto suffered a sprained ankle during Italy's 2-0 win over Malta on Sunday.
Gnonto was handed a start by Roberto Mancini after emerging from the bench in the 2-1 defeat to England in Naples. But he was withdrawn after just 22 minutes after rolling his ankle.
The 19-year-old is now a doubt for Leeds' trip to the Emirates Stadium to face Premier League leaders Arsenal on Saturday. And his injury serves as yet another blow after the Whites lost Tyler Adams to a hamstring issue before the international break, and Max Wober suffered a thigh injury for Austria last week.
Leeds United's Leo Hjelde opens up Rotherham United life, Marcelo Bielsa and misfortune
Leeds United youngster Leo Hjelde is making the most of his chance while out on loan at Rotherham United. Hjelde only joined the Millers in January, but he is already a fan favourite at the New York Stadium and he seems to have made an impact in the eight games he has played.
The move to the bottom end of the Championship came about after the 19-year-old had made just two senior outings for Leeds’ first-team this season, both coming in the Carabao Cup under Jesse Marsch. With Hjelde reaching a pivotal point in his fledging career, it was clear he needed more than just the odd morsel of game time at a senior level in order to continue his development and the decision was taken to loan him to Matt Taylor’s Rotherham.
Hjelde was thrown straight into the starting XI by Taylor and on his debut he helped the club to a morale boosting 4-0 win over promotion chasing Blackburn Rovers. He hasn’t looked back from there and he looks set play a key role as the club battle against relegation from the second tier over the next few weeks.
