Leeds United news as details of West Ham's efforts to sign Kalvin Phillips emerge

Here are the latest Leeds United morning headlines on Sunday, 6 February 2022.

'£55m bid' rejected for Phillips

According to Mail Online, Leeds United rejected a £55m bid from West Ham United for midfielder Kalvin Phillips on deadline day.

During the January transfer window, both Phillips and teammate Raphinha were claimed to be targets for the Hammers and the Whites reportedly received a late offer for the former.

The report claims Leeds chief executive Angus Kinnear was contacted by West Ham vice-chairman Karren Brady but that the Hammers were knocked back.

Phillips is currently injured but has been a crucial figure in the midfield of Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa since the Argentine took charge in 2018.

Data forecast predicts Leeds safety

Leeds United have been predicted to avoid relegation to the Championship in a forecast fuelled by data analysis.

FiveThirtyEight use data to create predictions and their latest forecast for the Premier League has the Whites finishing in 14th.

In the predicted table, this puts Marcelo Bielsa's side above Brentford, Everton, Burnley and the three teams they have tipped to go down - Watford, Newcastle United and Norwich City.

James hails attention to detail of coaching

Leeds United winger Daniel James has hailed the detail in the coaching at the club as 'second to none'.

The 24-year-old made the switch from Manchester United back in the summer having previously seen a move to Elland Road break down at the eleventh hour.

However, he was finally given the opportunity to work with Whites boss Marcelo Bielsa last August and has waxed lyrical about the coaching at the club..

Speaking to BBC Radio Leeds, he said: "The detail is obviously second to none. Everything is so fine and detailed. The one-to-one meetings and everyone’s obviously got their individual clips to look at, which he goes through with you.

"The detail of it: I’ve learned so much here already and I’ve still got so much to learn, but he’s been absolutely brilliant since I’ve come in.

"There’s times where he’s had to reiterate things, but I think there’s stuff in the games you do which maybe doesn’t get seen, as you said, off the ball and things that I find myself doing without even thinking anymore because we do it in training every single day."
