Here are the latest Leeds United evening headlines on Tuesday, 11 October 2022.
More Gakpo reports
Cody Gakpo’s desire not to join Leeds United has been reiterated again today by Sky in Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg. Leeds were close to signing Gakpo on deadline day in the summer, but after a deal fell through, shifted talks towards a January move.
However, after an electric start to the season, Gakpo is now thought to have made it clear he wants to join a ‘bigger club’, rather than Leeds. The Dutch international has already netted 13 goals and provided 10 assists in 16 club appearances this season and is quickly establishing himself as one of Europe’s top talents.
Liverpool blow
Liverpool defenders Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joel Matip are both in a race against time to be fit for the game against Leeds United later this month. Alexander-Arnold was substituted at half time of the 3-2 defeat Arsenal on Sunday after picking up an ankle injury.

The 24-year-old appeared to twist it under a challenge from Gabriel Martinelli, whose studs landed on the boot of Alexander-Arnold after delivering a cross into the box. Alexander-Arnold carried on for the remainder of the half after the injury, but the swelling on his foot was too much to continue and he is now set to miss the next two weeks.
Matip, meanwhile, is also set to be on the sidelines for a similar period after picking up a calf injury in the same game. Both could be fit for the fixture against Leeds on October 29 but will need to prove their fitness ahead of the clash at Anfield.

Fixtures
Leeds United will feel they have not capitalised on a favourable run of fixtures in recent weeks. The Whites have picked up just two points from their last five matches, all against sides who are likely to be in and around them come the end of the season.
As such, Jesse Marsch will now recognise the importance of a strong return in their six matches heading into the World Cup. Leeds are now very much within the group of teams within touching distance of the top half, but also looking over their shoulders at the sides below them.
Ahead of the mid-season break, Leeds will have some very tough fixtures to negotiate, with three of the ‘big six’ to come. Here is a look at who Leeds are set to face in the coming weeks.
