Leeds turn down midfield duo
Leeds United reportedly turned down the chance to sign Premier League midfielders Donny van de Beek and Harry Winks on loan in January.
That is according to the Athletic, who claim that after talks with Marcelo Bielsa, the Whites opted against pursuing them.
Van de Beek eventually escaped his nightmare at Manchester United on deadline day as he made the loan switch to Everton.
Winks, meanwhile, remained at Tottenham Hotspur, who instead sent out Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele on loan, before then selling Dele Alli.
Berardi joins new club
Former Leeds United defender Gaetano Berardi has finally found a new club following his departure from Elland Road last summer.
Berardi has agreed a short-term deal with Swiss side FC Sion, who he has joined until the end of the season.
The 33-year-old has not played competitively since the final day of last season but has been rewarded with a contract until the end of the 2021/22 season following a successful trial period with the two-time Swiss champions.
Sion - who compete in Switzerland's top flight - are currently placed sixth in the league and based in the south of the Alpine country.
Window verdict
For the second successive January window, Leeds United opted against doing any transfer business.
The Whites tried hard to prise Brenden Aaronson away from Red Bull Salzburg, but ultimately their bid of £20 million was not enough as the Austrian side held firm in their not for sale stance.
Beyond that, it appears that Leeds did not have any other major targets. It was Aaronson or bust.
Whether that proves to be the right decision, only time will tell and Leeds will be hoping that their injury crisis has eased significantly following the winter break.
