Leeds United news as Bruno Lage identifies Whites change and full squad revealed for Wolves trip

Here are the latest Leeds United morning headlines on Friday, 18 March 2022.

Lage sees Leeds change

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Bruno Lage has identified what he believes is different about Leeds United under new boss Jesse Marsch. Marsch was appointed as the Whites’ manager late last month as he took over from Marcelo Bielsa.

The American has so far taken charge of three matches during his time at Elland Road, winning one and losing two. Marsch has looked to move away from the man-to-man marking system Bielsa used when out of possession and speaking in his pre-match press conference, Lage detailed some of the differences he has seen.

He said: “Change we can see. When they press, they wait a little bit. They’re more patient. They wait for the ball to go into certain places. But they still come to press high. They defend one against one. Some players change position a little bit.”

Squad revealed

Leeds United could finally welcome back Kalvin Phillips and Liam Cooper to the squad for the trip to Wolves this evening. The duo have been out of action for over three months but have returned to full training in the last week and are therefore back in contention.

The Whites, though, are sweating on the fitness of both Rodrigo Moreno and Joe Gelhardt due to respective thigh and back injuries, however there is a chance they make the squad as their injuries are not thought to be serious. Patrick Bamford is expected to lead the line again despite his half time substitution against Norwich City on Sunday.

Predicted XIs

Leeds United reporters Beren Cross and Joe Donnohue have given their predicted XIs for this evening’s trip to Wolves. Jesse Marsch could have a strong squad of players to choose from with Kalvin Phillips and Liam Cooper both back fit.

Joe Gelhardt is also knocking on the door for a start after his late heroics off the bench against Norwich City, while Jack Harrison will too hope for a return to the XI. It is the first time in a while that either Marsch or former boss Marcelo Bielsa has had such a strong squad, meaning there are selection headaches all over the pitch.
