Leeds United news as Bournemouth labelled as 'bag of nerves' ahead of Elland Road trip

Here are the latest Leeds United evening headlines on Thursday, 3 November 2022.

Merson on Bournemouth

Paul Merson has labelled Bournemouth as a 'bag of nerves' ahead of their trip to Leeds United on Saturday. After a promising start to the season, the Cherries have lost three straight matches in the Premier League and are now very much among a crop of teams in and around the bottom three.

Leeds, meanwhile, will be looking to kick on from their 2-1 win at Liverpool last weekend after ending their eight-match winless run. In his latest predictions column for Sportskeeda, Merson has backed the Whites to make it back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

He said: “Leeds United’s victory against Liverpool – what a result! No one – not even the Leeds manager – would’ve seen that coming. If they go back-to-back and win this match, they can kick on from there.

“Bournemouth have lost three games on the trot in the Premier League. They’re on a slippery slope, and they’ll start sliding if they lose this match as well. Bournemouth were 2-0 up against Tottenham but threw it away in the end. That was a bad result, and they’re a bag of nerves at the moment.

“This is a big game for both teams. There will be a lot of goals in this match, because both teams will have to give it a go. This is a winnable match for both teams, but I think Leeds have the upper hand going into this game. Prediction: Leeds 3-2 Bournemouth."

Sinisterra blow

Leeds United head coach Jesse Marsch expects to be without Luis Sinisterra until after the World Cup break. The winger was due to restart training this week after missing the win over Liverpool on Saturday night with a foot complaint.

However, further scans have revealed that Sinisterra is struggling with a Lisfranc issue, which is expected to rule him out of Leeds’ last two games before the World Cup break. He said: “Stuart (Dallas) and Adam (Forshaw), again are injured but making progress.

"Archie Gray will be, we think, on the pitch tomorrow, so starting getting closer to training with the full team. And then the only other update is Luis Sinisterra.

“Luis has a foot injury that it turns out to be more than what we initially originally thought it was. He wasn't making the progress that we were hoping for him to make over the last 10 days. So they did another scan and then they had a specialist looked at it, and they start to worry about it being a Lisfranc injury."

Son blow

Tottenham Hotspur's Son Heung-Min has seen his World Cup thrown into doubt after being forced off in the Champions League clash with Marseille. The South Korean international fractured an area around his left eye after a coming together with Chancel Mbemba.

Son will now undertake surgery in an attempt to stabilise the area and could well miss the World Cup in Qatar. It'll come as a bitter blow for the captain of South Korea.

It also means the Spurs' forward is likely to miss the clash with Leeds United in just under two weeks time. Jesse Marsch's side are set to travel to London to face Antonio Conte's men in the final Premier League fixture before the winter break.
