Leeds United news as Ayling makes improvement vow and Radrizzani drops Raphinha hint

Here are the latest Leeds United evening headlines on Sunday, September 4.

Ayling message

Luke Ayling has vowed Leeds United to keep working hard to improve after making his comeback in the defeat at Brentford on Saturday. Ayling made his first appearance since May in London after undergoing surgery on a knee injury.

The Whites’ vice-captain played the final 20 minutes and set up Marc Roca’s first goal for the club, but couldn’t stop Leeds from being defeated 5-2. Writing on his official Instagram today, Ayling spoke of the bittersweet feeling of returning to the pitch.

He said: “Was so good to be back out there yesterday after 4 months out. Thought it was all over after 20 seconds. Not the result we wanted yesterday but we will keep working to get better and keep improving.”

Radrizzani hint

Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani has potentially confirmed the Whites are in receipt of all the transfer funds Barcelona paid for Brazilian winger Raphinha.

The Catalan giants have been the talk of European football this summer, with president Joan Laporta committing to a rigorous spending project in order to get Barcelona back to the top of the game.

Barcelona have found themselves in financial turmoil in recent years but seem to have gotten themselves out of a bind by selling off club assets and future image rights in order to inject cash into the club.

Bamford

Patrick Bamford says Leeds United were "naive" at Brentford. The Whites went 2-0 down after two goals from Bees striker Ivan Toney but Luis Sinisterra got one back just before the stroke of half-time.

However, a third goal from Toney, a red card for Leeds manager Jesse Marsch and late goals from Bryan Mbuemo and Yoane Wissa sealed all three points for the Bees.

Bamford said: "It's not where we wanted to be. You always say each game is a learning curve but we can't do what we did - get back in the game and then throw it away within seconds. It was naive from us.”
