Leeds United news as AC Milan submit first bid for Whites target, two deals at advanced stage

Here are the latest Leeds United morning headlines on Tuesday, 5 July.

Milan submit CDK bid

AC Milan have submitted their first offer to Club Brugge for Belgian forward Charles de Ketelaere. That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims Milan’s bid is around €20 million plus add-ons, which based on other reports, will fall short of Brugge’s valuation.

Brugge are set to ask for closer €40 million for their 21-year-old star, and Leeds could submit an offer once deals for Tyler Adams and Luis Sinisterra are tied up. Leicester City are also keen on de Ketelaere this summer.

Adams advanced

Talks with Tyler Adams are at an advanced stage as Leeds United look to swiftly fill the hole left by Kalvin Phillips ahead of Sunday’s flight to Australia. The American has spent the summer on Victor Orta’s midfielder shortlist and with the way now cleared by Phillips, the wheels are in motion on a transfer.

The Whites hope to land the 23-year-old on a permanent transfer from RB Leipzig before Jesse Marsch takes the squad Down Under for more than two weeks. Phillips’s transfer to Manchester City was confirmed on Monday morning and within a few hours, the button was pushed on Adams.

While the move for Adams has moved quickly and may be completed towards the back end of the week, there is hope another target may even be confirmed before him. Luis Sinisterra came onto the radar in the Dutch press this morning with reports of an agreement with Feyenoord suggesting he too may be through the door this week.

Phillips on Pep

Kalvin Phillips has revealed the opportunity to work with Pep Guardiola is what attracted him to Manchester City. Phillips’ move from Leeds United to the Premier League champions was confirmed this morning as the 26-year-old put pen-to-paper on a six-year-deal.

Speaking to mancity.com following his move, Phillips reflected on his first meeting with City back in October 2020, when Leeds earned a 1-1 draw. He claimed that he felt starstruck by Guardiola and several members of the City squad that evening, but cannot wait to be working alongside them on a daily basis.

He said: “Yeah, it was a wet night at Elland Road. We’d just drawn 1-1 against City. It was a big game, and I think it was the first game against City that I’d played.

“I went round shaking everybody’s hands not really saying much because I was too speechless to say anything because they’re all big stars and then Pep came over after the game as well and shook my hand.

“I was just like ‘cheers, thank you’ and just smiling. It was an amazing moment but I’m here now and being managed by Pep was one of the things that I always aimed for.”
