Leeds United news amid 'optimism' Weston McKennie loan deal with option to buy nears completion

Here are your Leeds United morning headlines for Saturday, January 28.

Leeds and Juventus hold talks over Weston McKennie loan deal

Leeds are expected to hold talks with McKennie once again on Saturday over a loan deal that includes an option to buy. With time running out in the January transfer window, it appears that Jesse Marsch may well have found the midfield reinforcement that he has been desperately searching for.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, there is 'optimism' that the Juventus midfielder will make the move to Elland Road and that there was a breakthrough in talks between the two clubs on Friday night.

The negotiations due to take place are looking to 'get the deal sealed' - which could well mean Leeds and Juventus are now close to finalising the move.

Jesse Marsch explains Robin Koch dilemma

Jesse Marsch faces a Leeds United defensive dilemma as he ponders how to prepare his side to be without Robin Koch. Koch picked up his fifth Premier League yellow card of the campaign last time out against Brentford and that means he will be suspended when the Whites go to Nottingham Forest next week.

He will be eligible to play in the FA Cup against Accrington Stanley on Saturday afternoon, though, but Marsch admits he has a decision to make about whether he plays him at the Wham Stadium or not. The German international was one of Leeds’ best at Elland Road against the Bees last weekend as he produced a number of fine moments and combined well with new signing Max Wober in the centre of defence.

The pair looked at home alongside each other as they kept Ivan Toney and Bryan Mbeumo quiet to help Leeds keep just a fourth clean sheet of the season and supporters would be keen to see the partnership again at Accrington, particularly given club captain Liam Cooper is currently rated as touch and go for the tie. Marsch, though, has hinted that the clash at the City Ground could come into his thoughts when he selects his side this week.

Leeds can break seven-year-old record vs Accrington Stanley

Leeds United could at long last unleash the most expensive transfer in their history this afternoon. Georginio Rutter has had exactly two weeks to settle in at Thorp Arch and Accrington Stanley looks likely to be the start of his West Yorkshire odyssey.

It will be fascinating to see where the versatile Frenchman plays, how he dovetails with his teammates and how he copes with League One opposition in front of a crowd unlikely to go beyond 5,500.

With a clear week before and after this FA Cup clash, United’s regulars should not be in need of any fatigue-induced rest. Total rest in Lancashire would also effectively mean a fortnight off between the Brentford and Nottingham Forest games, which Jesse Marsch may look to avoid.
