Leeds United 'monitoring' Brazilian striker but Whites will have to move fast to beat deadline

Leeds United are reportedly keeping an eye on Flamengo striker Pedro, according to Fabrizio Romano. He claims the Whites have been ‘monitoring’ the Brazilian for a prolonged period of time but will have to move quickly if they want to secure his signature before tonight’s 11pm deadline.

Leeds have been in the market for a new striker throughout the summer but are yet to have any success in their search. Cody Gakpo, though more of a winger, was close to joining the club overnight but is instead set to stay at PSV after an offer in excess of €40 million was turned down.

Pedro has spent much of his career in his native Brazil, starting at Fluminense, where he netted 20 goals in 58 appearances. The 25-year-old did have a brief spell in Serie A with Fiorentina but played just four matches before moving on loan to Flamengo.

His move to the club was then made permanent in 2020, with Pedro enjoying the best personal season of his career so far in 2021/22. He has found the net 20 times across 48 matches in all competitions which has prompted Leeds to keep close tabs on his situation.

On Leeds’ interest, Romano told Give Me Sport : “I’m told that the player they have been monitoring for a long time is Pedro from Flamengo, the Brazilian striker.

“But the problem with South American transfers is the timing. Of course, now we’re close to the end of the window, so they need to be fast if they want to do a South American deal.”
