Elland Road has been left ‘looking like Glastonbury after the festival finished’ after Leeds United fans chucked paper on the pitch.
Play in Leeds United’s match this evening, being broadcast on Sky Sports, had to be stopped briefly while players from both sides removed debris from the pitch. Some on social media have been asking whether it was some kind of protest.
Whereas actually, it appears like supporters at Elland Road are just being a little mischievous. The paper has come from a mural reading ‘ Yorkshire ’, aimed as a little dig at the visiting Lancashire side, which fans formed ahead of the match.

The stoppage did cause some confusion among those watching on TV. Former Manchester United player Gary Neville, on commentary, said: “It looks like Glastonbury after the festival finished.”
Many viewers have made observations on Twitter. We saw @Keith174082121 write: “Here's some paper, hold it up to show your support for your team Leeds fans. I'm going to crumple it up and f**k it at City players. That'll show them!”
While @KelCurwood34 posted: “Wtf are they doing throwing paper balls at the Leeds v Man City match? Ridiculous childishness.” Another viewer @gaznolan added: “Why are the Leeds fans chucking the paper on the pitch? Other than them being Dirty Leeds fans.”
Another @C4H1R posted: “Can’t even give Leeds fans a bit of paper. Embarrassing bunch.” We couldn’t concluded things better than @evie_ire, they posted: “Leeds fans making paper air planes and chucking then on the pitch is why i love being a Leeds fan.”
