Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch slams 'terrible' Frank Lampard tactic during Everton draw

Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch claimed that Everton were guilty of 'terrible' time-wasting during Tuesday’s 1-1 draw between the two clubs.

Frank Lampard's side took the lead at Elland Road, but the home side responded in the second half through Luis Sinisterra to level proceedings.

Antony Gordon, who has been linked with a move to Chelsea for several weeks, grabbed his second goal in two matches with a smart finish past Illan Meslier in the first period.

Despite the points being shared, Leeds boss Marsch was frustrated with Everton's approach to the latter stages of the match - with the American even pointing towards his watch when Jordan Pickford took his time over a goal kick.

Marsch went on to suggest that the Blues' time-wasting was 'terrible' and claimed that Everton's players were attempting to 'take the energy' out of Elland Road.

"Yeah that [time-wasting] was terrible. It is classic. For me, you can see when the players of Everton are kicking the ball away in the first minute of the game. It is clear they want to take the energy out of Elland Road," he told BT Sport.

"This is an entertainment business and I wish the referee had handled that bit a little better. After it was 1-1 it became entertaining, but it was too late. The referee had the chance to affect the game and did not take advantage of that."

The Blues were without new signing Neal Maupay for the game with Leeds, with the striker unable to play thanks to a Premier League rule over his registration.

The organisation only allows signings to be registered if they are signed at 12pm on the last working day before a match, meaning that the bank holiday on Monday ruled out the 26-year-old for this clash. Everton's next Premier League match sees them face off against Merseyside rivals Liverpool on Saturday afternoon at Goodison Park.
