Leeds United make key backroom appointment as they move to fill void created by Victor Orta exit

Leeds United have moved to fill the void created by Victor Orta's departure last month by appointing Nick Hammond as an interim football advisor at the start of what will be a busy transfer window for the club.

Hammond has previously served as Reading's director of football and as head of football operations at Celtic, before performing a consultancy role at Newcastle United, which saw him undertake a similar task to the one he will no undergo at Elland Road.

Following their 2021 takeover, Newcastle appointed Hammond on an interim basis while they waited for Dan Ashworth to join from Brighton and he was able to oversee the club bring in the likes of Kieran Trippier, Bruno Guimaraes, Dan Burn and Chris Wood.

Leeds have been without a head of recruitment since Orta left the club at the beginning of May and following their relegation from the Premier League, can expect a busy summer transfer window to follow.
