Leeds United make huge Jesse Marsch decision after Nottingham Forest defeat

Leeds United have sacked manager Jesse Marsch.

The final act for the American at Elland Road could well be the Whites' 1-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest on Sunday, with Brennan Johnson's strike the only difference between the two sides. Leeds had began the game as the better side but a change in tactics at the break by Reds boss Steve Cooper meant the visitors were able to create very little in the way of clear-cut chances which has ultimately cost Marsch his job.

The weekend meeting at the City Ground was a huge match in the context of the season for both sides, with Forest able to move six points clear of the Whites with a win. Had Leeds come away with the victory, they would've moved above Forest.

Marsch is set to leave Leeds with the club sat 17th in the table and only out of the bottom three on goal difference after just two wins in their last 17 Premier League matches. Only Southampton have a worse record points-wise in that timeframe and they are currently bottom of the table.

With sides around them picking up points in recent matches and Everton looking a different side in just one game under Sean Dyche, the Leeds hierarchy have decided to pull the trigger with 18 games remaining. They will now begin the search for a new boss with a double header against Manchester United this week.

"Leeds United can confirm head coach Jesse Marsch has been relieved of his duties," a statement from Leeds read. "Jesse joined the club in February 2022 and was instrumental in keeping the club in the Premier League on the final day of last season.

Rene Maric, Cameron Toshack and Pierre Barrieu will also leave the club. We would like to thank Jesse and his backroom staff for their efforts and wish them well for the future.

"The process of appointing a new head coach is underway and we will continue to keep supporters up to date throughout the coming days."
