Leeds United lose key player in Everton and Burnley relegation battle after red card

Everton's relegation rivals Leeds United have suffered a major blow after defender Luke Ayling was sent off in the first half of his side's match against Arsenal this afternoon.

United were already two goals down before Ayling left the ground with a two-footed lunge on Gabriel Martinelli that sparked a furious response from the Brazilian's teammates.

And when referee Chris Kavanagh was invited to review the incident on the VAR pitch side monitor, he had no hesitation in showing Ayling a straight red card.

The dismissal means that one of Leeds' key defenders will now be suspended for their three remaining Premier League fixtures.

Ayling's team mate Raphinha also received a yellow card following the decision after remonstrating with the referee, with Mateusz Klich also booked before the break.

Two goals from Eddie Nketiah gave Arsenal a 2-0 lead at the halfway point.

Leeds host Chelsea next, before another home game against Brighton and a final day trip to Brentford.
