Leeds United will be looking to avoid setting an unwanted club record stat in the Premier League ahead of their matches with Manchester City and Newcastle United. The Whites have conceded 69 goals in the league so far in the calendar year of 2022 and are just one short of equalling their record of 70 in 2003.
Leeds currently possess the joint fifth defensive record in the division so far this season having shipped 26 goals in their 14 matches so far. With City and Newcastle to come, who both sit in the top three positions in the table, it is going to be difficult for Leeds to avoid surpassing the 70 they conceded in 2003.
This could be a bad omen for Leeds given their narrow escape of relegation in the 2002/03 season, before then going down the following year. As everyone knows, Leeds secured survival by the skin of their teeth last term and are once again in the centre of another battle to beat the drop.

Leeds' defence has been particularly leaky in recent matches having conceded seven goals in their last two games before the World Cup break. The Whites came from behind to defeat Bournemouth 4-3 at Elland Road, before losing by the same scoreline the following week against Tottenham Hotspur.
Jesse Marsch's side could've hardly picked a worst two opponents to end the calendar year with Man City comfortably the league's highest scorers with 40. Newcastle, meanwhile, have found the net on 32 occasions; only Arsenal, Tottenham and the aforementioned City have more.
