Leeds United loanee Leif Davis named Bournemouth's January Player of the Month

Leeds United loanee Leif Davis has been named the AFC Bournemouth Player of the Month for January.

The 22-year-old has impressed for the Cherries in the last month, starting three of their four competitive matches, including a fine 3-1 win over Yeovil Town in the FA Cup.

That was Davis' first appearance since November and he kept his place in Scott Parker's side for the tricky-looking trip to Luton Town on Saturday, January 15.

Although the Cherries fell to a 3-2 defeat, Davis put in another positive performance, recording one key pass, three crosses and three tackles.

Davis backed this up by seemingly being Bournemouth's most creative attacking outlet against Hull City, registering a shot and creating two chances for teammates.

However, the Cherries were beaten 1-0 by the Tigers and Parker decided to make four changes for the clash with rock bottom Barnsley as they looked to get back to winning ways.

The Newcastle-born left-back was one of those who dropped out the side, with Jordan Zemura replacing him after he returned from the Africa Cup of Nations.

Despite not playing in their final match of the month, Davis was still nominated for the Player of the Month award alongside Emiliano Marcondes, Mark Travers and Jack Stacey.

Marcondes scored a hat-trick in the win over Yeovil at the start of the month, while Travers and Stacey were vital in the victory at Oakwell last time month.

With 60.9% of the votes on Bournemouth's poll, Davis comprehensively came out on top and it's the first time he's won the award since joining the Cherries on loan from Leeds in the summer.

Travers came second on 25.9%, while Marcondes (9.4%) and Stacey (3.7%) were third and fourth as over 6,000 supporters voted for the award.

Davis could next be in action when Bournemouth take on Boreham Wood in the FA Cup fourth-round on Sunday.

He has made a total of 12 appearances in all competitions following his move from Leeds, and although he struggled towards the start of the season, Davis is beginning to adapt to the Championship.

During his time at Leeds, Davis has featured just nine times in the league but this loan spell could help him in his development as a senior player.
