Leeds United linked with Man City youngster who could have role in Kalvin Phillips switch

Leeds United have shown an interest in taking Manchester City youngster Romeo Lavia to Elland Road, according to reports. The Athletic claim that Leeds are keeping an eye on Lavia, with Southampton also looking at the 18-year-old defensive midfielder.

City are keen to keep hold of Lavia as he continues his development through the ranks at the Etihad Stadium. However, the report suggests they could consider using him to sweeten any deal for Leeds' Kalvin Phillips.

The Premier League champions have been linked with a move for Phillips for some time, after identifying him as a potential replacement for Fernandinho, who left the Etihad Stadium at the of the season. And, although, Leeds Live reported yesterday that no official offer had been made, the speculation surrounding the England international is beginning to gather pace.

Lavia is still waiting to make his league debut under Pep Guardiola, despite featuring on the bench on a handful of occasions last season. He has made a couple of first-team outings, though, with appearances coming in the Carabao Cup against Wycombe Wanderers and in the FA Cup third round versus Swindon Town.

The youngster spent most of the season in the Man City development squad and he played a key role as the under-23s won the Premier League 2 Division 1 title. Lavia started his career at Belgian giants Anderlecht before linking up with City in 2020 and earlier this month he made he debut for Belgium’s under-21 side.
