Leeds United-linked Real Madrid left-back in advanced talks over move to Girona

Leeds United-linked Real Madrid left back Miguel Gutierrez is reportedly in advanced talks to join La Liga side Girona FC. That is according to journalist Ekrem Konur, who originally broke the news of Leeds’ interest in the 20-year-old Spaniard.

Leeds remain in the market for a new left back following the departure of Leif Davis to Ipswich Town last week but look set to lose out in the race for Gutierrez. The Whites do not have a single fit recognised left back in the entire squad as Junior Firpo continues his recovery from a knee injury he picked up in the first game of pre-season.

Pascal Struijk looks likely to begin the season at left back after starting Leeds’ last two friendlies in that role. Jack Harrison and Leo Hjelde were also tried there over pre-season, but like Struijk, their best positions lay elsewhere.

And as Leeds’ hunt for a new left back continues, they will have to act fast if they are to sign Gutierrez as it appears as though he is on the verge of a move elsewhere. Gutierrez has already played 10 times for Real Madrid’s first team, providing three assists in that timeframe, but is behind the likes of Ferland Mendy in the pecking order under Carlo Ancelotti.

Given his age, and based on Leeds’ transfer strategy this summer, he is the sort of player who would fit the bill. However, it appears as though the Whites may have to start looking at alternatives, if they were ever serious about Gutierrez in the first place.
